The Natural Resources Conservation Service's Wetlands Reserve Program (Pilot
Program)
NOTE! Sign-up Ends July 28, 2006
The Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) is a voluntary program established for the
purpose of protecting, restoring and enhancingwetlands, while maximizing
wildlife benefits. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides
technical and financial support to help landowners achieve wetland restoration
objectives through such programs as WRP.
The WRP pilot will offer landowners in selected watersheds, an opportunity to
sell to the NRCS a permanent or 30-year easement on a degraded wooded wetland
through a two-phase bid process, based on environmental points and cost. If the
easement is selected for purchase, NRCS will purchase the easement and then
restore the wetland functions and values on the land.
The select watersheds are:
Choptank River,
Nanticoke River,
Blackwater-Wicomico, and
Pocomoke River
watersheds, excluding developmental zones.
Applications should be submitted at your local
NRCS field office.
