Environmental Quality Incentive Program Overview

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary conservation program administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. EQIP supports production agriculture and environmental quality as compatible goals. Through EQIP, Delaware farmers may receive financial and technical help to plan, design and install structural conservation practices and to plan and implement management practices on eligible agricultural land.

Environmental Quality Incentives Program Sign-up Underway

A statewide EQIP sign-up for agricultural waste management, integrated crop management, irrigation water management, erosion control, grazing land management, biodiversity, and poultry house windbreaks is currently underway. Two pilot programs on carbon sequestration and poultry litter amendments are under review by the EQIP subcommittee of the state technical committee.

EQIP is a competitive program using a combination of statewide and county ranking systems to fund the most environmentally beneficial projects. Periodically, all current applications are batched and ranked.

The initial batching date was completed on January 14, 2005. The second batching date was February 18, 2005 and the third batching date was March 18, 2005. Based on past experience, all available EQIP funds of $5,225,527 will be obligated during the first and second rankings.

All sign-ups are conducted at USDA Service Centers in Delaware.
