Chester-Sassafras Watershed - Conservation Security Program
Delaware
Description of Watershed
The Delaware portion of the
Chester-Sassafras watershed is located in western Kent and New Castle
Counties Delaware. The majority of the watershed is in Maryland and a
small portion is also in Pennsylvania. The land uses in this
watershed consist of cropland, irrigated cropland, forestland, wetlands,
and urban land.
The watershed topography is gently rolling to generally flat. The soils
in the watershed are primarily in the Woodstown-Sassafras-Fallsington,
Matapeake-OthelloSassafras, and the Fallsington-Woodstown-Sassafras
general soil series.
There are about 76 farms in the Delaware portion of the watershed. The
average farm size is approximately 200 acres. Primary crops include
corn, soybeans, wheat, and barley. |
