The week of September 23 through 29 is National Older Workers Week. The Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities is honoring older employees who contribute vital knowledge, skills and abilities to the workplace. Two of the honorees this year work with Delaware’s First State Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D) and the First State RC&D Area was also honored.

RC&D Emergency Home Repair Program employees, Angel Watson, Robert H. Grant, Kelly Steed and Christine Stillson, receive awards from the SCSEP.

George “Les” Lockerman was honored as “Outstanding Older Worker” of the year for his work with the Emergency Home Repair Program, an initiative of the First State RC&D. Robert H. Grant was honored as the oldest participant of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP is a program operated by the Delaware Division of Service for Aging Adults. The SCSEP works through a partnership of employers to help train and place older community members in the working environment.

The First State RC&D Council was recognized as one of three Outstanding Employers of Older Workers. First State RC&D is a host employer for the SCSEP and works with the First State Community Action Agency in their SCSEP program.

The awards were based on nominations submitted by the First State Community Action Agency, a contract agency working with the Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities

Of the more than 22,000 volunteer hours, the First State RC&D contributed more than 99 percent of those hours.
