NEWSUnited States Department of Agriculture Federal Funding Available for the New Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative in Delaware DOVER, Del., March 30, 2009 – The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Delaware will offer $440,000 to eligible partners for competitive proposals to protect the state’s natural resources through the Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI). USDA has also allocated $5.8 million for national and multi-state projects from partners that offer innovative approaches to working with minority, beginning or limited-resource farmers that help further enhance conservation outcomes on agricultural lands and private nonindustrial forest lands. CCPI is a voluntary initiative that allows NRCS to enter into multi-year agreements with partners that want to enhance conservation on agricultural and non-industrial forest lands—by using private landowners. Partners eligible for CCPI include federally recognized American Indian tribes, state and local units of governments, producer associations, farmer cooperatives, colleges and universities and non-governmental organizations with a history of working closely with producers. “This initiative allows our valuable partners to work with groups of landowners and operators to help them seek new ways to remain profitable and productive, while simultaneously addressing the high priority resource concerns here,” said NRCS State Conservationist Russell Morgan. CCPI is funded through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP). Through CCPI, partners work with landowners in an approved project area to address resource concerns outlined in the selected conservation programs. Proposals for state projects must be submitted by April 23, 2009 to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist Russell Morgan. Multi-state and national projects must be submitted to Chief Dave White, USDA-NRCS National Office in Washington, D.C. by the same date. Additional details about the CCPI Request for Proposals can be viewed at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/. (From the Federal Register's main page, enter Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative in the Quick Search Box and submit). The information also can be obtained at the NRCS Web site at http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/farmbill/2008/index.html.
