A
record number of exhibitors participated in the 33rd
annual Ag Day held April 26 on the grounds of Townsend Hall
at the University of Delaware (UD). Ag Day is sponsored by
UD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It is a
free family-oriented event designed to showcase the many
facets of modern agriculture and natural resources through
tours, demonstrations, exhibits, activities and a variety of
live music.
Marianne Hardesty and Laurie Janeka
represented the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service
with a display and activity about soils. Participants who
visited the display had the opportunity to make a soil
profile of Greenwich Soil, Delaware’s State Soil. The
display contained pictures of soil pits, tools used to
obtain and analyze soil samples, soil profiles and more.
Rick Mickowski of the New Castle Conservation
District (NCCD) and Michelle Jacobs of DNREC’s Division of
Soil and Water Conservation offered Ag Day attendees the
opportunity to spin the wheel and answer environmental
questions for a prize at the Delaware Envirothon display.
The New Castle Conservation District’s display showcased
their various projects and programs.
Ag Day, organized by the Ag Day Planning Team
and supported by more than 75 organizations, promotes the
UD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and raises
funds for student activities and community organizations.
