Subject: DELAWARE FARMERS RECEIVE CONSERVATION SECURITY PROGRAM (CSP) AWARDS
DOVER, DELAWARE, June 13, 2006- The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
has awarded 48 contracts to Delaware farmers through the
Conservation
Security Program (CSP). Contracts are signed for five to ten year durations,
and are awarded based on an evaluation of enrollment data collected during the
CSP sign-up period last year. In Delaware, more than $900,000 will be allocated
this year through first-year CSP contracts, which translates to nearly $4.5
million in CSP long-term investments in conservation practices in Delaware.
"This year we had great interest in CSP,” said Jon Hall, Delaware state
conservationist. "The benefits resulting from this program will help Delaware
farmers improve their operations and conservation practices, and increase the
quality of our natural resources."
CSP is a voluntary program that goes beyond past approaches of repairing on the
farm conservation problems. CSP offers incentives for those who are
good-stewards of soil and water resources, and are conserving these valuable
resources on their private agricultural lands. The awarded contracts will help
these stewards further conserve and enhance soil, water, air, energy, plant, and
wildlife habitat.
CSP is open to landowners within designated watersheds. The
Upper Nanticoke and the
Choptank River Watersheds in Delaware were designated for participation in
the 2006 CSP campaign. CSP is available yearly on a rotational basis in as many
watersheds as funding allows.
NRCS provides products and service that enable people to be good stewards of the
Nation’s soil, water and related natural resources on non-federal lands. The
NRCS mission is helping people
help the land. For additional information on the NRCS please visit us on the web
at www.de.nrcs.usda.gov. Additional
information on CSP is available at

State Conservationist at 302-678-4180.
