Introduction
The Broadkill-Smyrna Watershed is located in Eastern Kent and New
Castle
counties Delaware.
The land uses in this watershed consist of cropland, irrigated cropland,
forestland, wetlands, and urban land. The watershed is in the coastal
plain and the topography is generally flat The soils in the watershed
are in the Sassafras-Rumford-Fallsington, Evansville-Fallsington, and
Westbrook-Ipswich-Elkton general soil series.
There are about 330 farms in the 2008 eligible portion of the watershed
The average farm size is approximately 250 acres. Primary crops include
corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, and vegetables
